Transitions

Key transitions

Adjustments and changes as your baby grows, in the order they typically come up.

Start with newborn sizing

Recommended

Under 10 lbs for Size N; under 10-12 lbs for N+1.

Use The Diaper Size N if baby is under 10 lbs. If you want the mixed newborn/size 1 option, choose N+1; that box includes 3 packs of Size Newborn and 3 packs of Size 1. Newborn size includes an umbilical cord notch, and Newborn and Size 1 include overlapping tabs.

Size up based on fit signs

Recommended

Waist sits more than 2 fingers below the belly button; tabs barely close at the edges of the landing zone; lasting red marks or indents appear on the waist and thighs; or you experience an increase in leaks, blowouts, and tears, especially overnight.

Move up to the next Coterie diaper size. If your baby is in between sizes on Coterie’s chart, Coterie recommends sizing up.

Move to The Diaper Size 1

Recommended

8-12 lbs.

Switch to The Diaper Size 1. Size 1 includes overlapping tabs for a snug, customizable fit.

Move to The Diaper Size 2

Recommended

10-16 lbs.

Switch to The Diaper Size 2.

Move to The Diaper Size 3

Recommended

14-24 lbs.

Switch to The Diaper Size 3.

Switch to The Pant

Recommended

If your baby wears The Diaper size 3+ and is especially active (crawling and/or wiggling on the changing table); if your baby sizes out of The Diaper; or if you are preparing for potty training, or your baby is showing signs that they are ready to learn to pull their pants up and down.

Transition to The Pant. If you are already using The Diaper, order the same size in The Pant. If the diaper you are currently using is at or above the belly button or the tabs are almost overlapping, size down in The Pant.

Move to The Pant Size 3

Recommended

14-24 lbs.

If you are using The Pant, use Size 3.

Move to The Diaper Size 4

Recommended

20-32 lbs.

If you are continuing in The Diaper, switch to Size 4.

Move to The Pant Size 4

Recommended

20-32 lbs.

If you are using The Pant, switch to Size 4.

Move to The Diaper Size 5

Recommended

27+ lbs.

If you are continuing in The Diaper, switch to Size 5.

Move to The Pant Size 5

Recommended

27-38 lbs.

If you are using The Pant, switch to Size 5.

Move to The Diaper Size 6

Recommended

35+ lbs.

If you are continuing in The Diaper, switch to Size 6.

Move to The Pant Size 6/7

Recommended

33-62 lbs.

If you are using The Pant, switch to Size 6/7.

Move to The Diaper Size 7

Recommended

41+ lbs.

If you are continuing in The Diaper, switch to Size 7.

Use The Swimsuit for water activities

Informational

Right before entering the water.

Put The Swimsuit on right before entering the water. Choose Small for 14-26 lbs, Medium for 20-34 lbs, or Large for 30-40 lbs, and change into The Diaper or The Pant when finished with water activities to avoid leaks.

Safety

Usage warnings

  • If your baby is in between sizes on Coterie’s sizing chart, Coterie recommends sizing up for a better fit since leaks and blowouts are often a sign that it’s time to size up.
  • The Swimsuit is not intended to be worn dry for long periods of time or to hold large quantities of liquid; Coterie says a swim diaper’s primary function is to contain solid messes.
  • Put The Swimsuit on right before entering the water, and change into The Diaper or The Pant when finished with water activities to avoid leaks.

Product notes

Compatibility

  • Distinct diapering lines on Coterie’s official site: The Diaper, The Pant, and The Swimsuit.
  • The Diaper is described by Coterie as being for newborns and non-crawling infants, and its sizing goes up to 41 lbs.
  • The Pant is described by Coterie as being for active babies and for a gentler transition into potty training; Coterie says it can work from just crawling through potty training, and its sizing runs from 14 lbs to 62 lbs.
  • The Swimsuit is Coterie’s disposable swim diaper for water activities; its sizes span diaper sizes 2-5.

Setup notes

  • Coterie’s fit guide says the right diaper fit looks like: waist snug right below the belly button, no gaps around legs or waist, and room to run a finger around the waist and legs; it also says to pull out the ruffles.
  • Official signs it is time to size up: the waist sits more than 2 fingers below the belly button; tabs barely close at the edges of the landing zone; the diaper leaves lasting red marks or indents on the waist and thighs; or you experience an increase in leaks, blowouts, and tears, especially overnight.
  • Size-specific features explicitly stated by Coterie: Newborn size includes an umbilical cord notch; Newborn size and Size 1 include overlapping tabs for a snug, customizable fit.
  • The wetness indicator is described for The Diaper generally; the official sources reviewed did not tie it to only certain sizes.
  • If you are already using The Diaper, Coterie recommends ordering the same size in The Pant. Coterie also says The Pant runs a bit longer, so if the diaper you are currently using is at or above the belly button or the tabs are almost overlapping, size down in The Pant.
  • If you have used Pull-Ups, Easy Ups, or other training pants, Coterie says to size down in The Pant because it fits slightly larger.

Care instructions

  • The Diaper should be disposed of in a trash or diaper bin.
  • The Swimsuit should be disposed of in a trash or diaper bin.
  • To remove The Swimsuit, pull down or tear at the side seams.
