Transitions

Key transitions

Adjustments and changes as your baby grows, in the order they typically come up.

Remove harness pads for preemie fit

Safety critical

When securing a preemie.

Remove the harness pads before securing the child. Use the 2-piece infant insert as directed for smaller infants.

Adjust headrest and harness height

Safety critical

As the child grows, when the harness is no longer at the shoulders or slightly below.

Loosen the harness, pull up on the adjuster tab, and slide the head restraint up or down so the harness is at the shoulders or 1–2 positions below. Maintain at least 1 in (2.5 cm) between the child's head and the top of the headrest, and keep the chest clip at armpit level.

Remove Preemie Cushion

Safety critical

Once the infant reaches approximately 9 lbs (4.1 kg). The manual also says to continue using the 2-piece insert until the listed fit criteria are met.

Remove the lower Preemie Cushion. The Back Positioning Insert can continue to be used alone until approximately 4 months if the listed fit criteria are met.

Remove Back Positioning Insert

Safety critical

When the child reaches approximately 4 months.

Remove the Back Positioning Insert.

Discontinue Aria V2 use

Safety critical

When the child exceeds 30 lbs (13.6 kg), is taller than 30 in (76.2 cm), or the top of the child's head is less than 1 in (2.5 cm) from the top of the headrest when it is in its highest position.

Stop using this child restraint.

Safety

Product notes

Compatibility

  • This child restraint is for rear-facing use only.
  • UPPAbaby advises that all infants and toddlers should ride in a rear-facing car safety seat as long as possible, until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car seat manufacturer.

Setup notes

  • The infant insert is made up of two parts: the Preemie Cushion and the Back Positioning Insert.
  • The Preemie Cushion must be used in combination with the Back Positioning Insert.
  • Preemie Cushion: recommended starting at 4 lbs (1.8 kg) and up to approximately 9 lbs (4.1 kg); remove once the infant reaches approximately 9 lbs (4.1 kg).
  • Back Positioning Insert: can be used alone or with the Preemie Cushion; recommended starting at 4 lbs (1.8 kg) and up to approximately 4 months; the Start Here section says to remove it when the child reaches approximately 4 months.
  • For infants between 4 lbs (1.8 kg) and approximately 9 lbs (4.1 kg), use the 2-piece infant insert to optimize fit and body positioning.
  • Continue to use the 2-piece insert until all listed fit criteria are met: harness straps are at or slightly below the shoulders, chest clip is at armpit level, the child is not slouching and has good head and neck control, the crotch buckle rests securely against the child with no gaps and the child is not sitting on top of the buckle, and the harness can be properly tightened.
  • To adjust harness/headrest height, loosen the harness, pull up on the adjuster tab, and slide the head restraint up or down.
  • Harness position: at the shoulders or slightly below; the manual also states at the shoulders or 1–2 positions below.
  • Head clearance: keep a minimum 1 in (2.5 cm) gap between the child's head and the top of the headrest.
  • Retainer clip (chest clip): close it and position it at armpit level; make sure the shoulder pads do not interfere with chest-clip positioning.
  • Buckle placement: the crotch buckle should rest securely against the child with no gaps, and the child should not be sitting on top of the buckle.
  • Harness fit: harness straps should be snug; if you can pinch webbing at the child's shoulders, the harness is too loose.
