Transitions

Key transitions

Adjustments and changes as your baby grows, in the order they typically come up.

Reposition harness straps

Safety critical

Whenever the harness straps are not at or just below your child's shoulders. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))

Loosen the harness, remove each harness loop from the metal splitter plate, route the straps through the correct slot, reattach to the splitter plate, and make sure the harness does not pass over bars. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))

Re-route crotch belt for snug fit

Safety critical

As necessary to achieve a snug fit as your baby grows. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))

Move the crotch belt to the fit that gives a snug fit: smallest = threaded through rear slot and up through front slot; medium = threaded into rear slot; largest = threaded through front slot. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))

Remove body support

Safety critical

Once a snug fit can be achieved without it, at approximately 11 pounds. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))

Unbuckle the harness, remove the crotch pad, route the buckle and crotch belt through the bottom slot of the body support, and remove the body support. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))

Remove shoulder and crotch pads

Informational

Once the child reaches 22 lb. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))

If desired, remove the shoulder pads. To remove the crotch pad, slide the plastic tab out from behind the buckle and pull the pad off the buckle. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))

Stop using the PIPA™ rx

Safety critical

When your child exceeds 30 lb, exceeds 30 in, or the top of the child's head is less than 1 in below the top of the child restraint. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))

Discontinue use of this child restraint once any stated size limit or fit limit is no longer met. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))

Usage warnings

Product notes

Compatibility

  • Forward-facing minimum: not applicable for this model. The manual states this child restraint can ONLY be used in a rear-facing position in a vehicle, and forward-facing use would be unsafe. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))
  • Booster mode: official Nuna sources for the PIPA™ rx do not provide any booster-mode criteria or harness-to-booster transition steps; the product is documented as an infant car seat with rear-facing vehicle use only. ([nunababy.com](https://nunababy.com/usa/car-seats/infant-car-seats/pipa-rx-infant-car-seat-with-relx-base))

Setup notes

  • Infant insert stages/components: the manual names a head support and body support. The body support is for smaller babies and MUST be removed once a snug fit can be achieved without it, at approximately 11 lb. The head support may be used as necessary for small babies; its straps should only be used in the top two harness slot positions. The manual provides head-support removal steps but does not state an exact removal weight or height for it. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))
  • To adjust shoulder harness height, loosen the harness, turn the child restraint over, remove one harness loop from the metal splitter plate, pull the loose end through the slots, place it in the correct slot, and reattach it to the splitter plate. Do not allow the harness to pass over bars. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))
  • Crotch-belt / buckle placement: identify the crotch-belt slot that achieves a snug fit for the child. There are two crotch-belt slots and three routing options. Change crotch-belt slot as necessary as the baby grows: smallest fit = threaded through rear slot and up through front slot; medium fit = threaded into rear slot; largest fit = threaded through front slot. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))
  • When buckling, temporarily slide the chest clip toward the buckle for tightening, tighten the harness, confirm the harness is snug, then place the chest clip back at armpit level. ([dl.nunababy.eu](https://dl.nunababy.eu/Instruction_Manual/US/PIPA-rx/Nuna_PIPArx_UserManual_US.pdf))
